Event Details

Featuring musical scores from the collection of Notations 21, this exhibition is a sampling of innovative developments in musical notational systems used by contemporary composers from around the globe. Experimental music needs experimental methods of depicting sounds.  The types of sounds used in musical composition have become so non-standardized that composers have created their own notational symbols, or entirely new systems of notation, to express musical ideas that standardized notation cannot. Some composers create new additions to the traditional system of notation, while others create entirely new notational systems with their own semiotic relationship to the sonic world.
